About the field of study

Biomedical Engineering is among one of the most innovative areas of the economy related to the development and improvement of production, efficient use of materials and operation of devices, as well as systems used in diagnostics, therapy and medical rehabilitation. At the same time, it is one of the fastest growing scientific fields in the world. The focus is firmly on the human being, especially as better medical equipment is aimed at improving treatment and diagnosis, as well as improving quality of life. It is important to remember that the population is aging, and countries' policies are strongly focused on health issues, which translates into a high demand for medical equipment. The study program takes into account the requirements that the modern market creates. It includes not only subjects at the intersection of biology and medicine, but also research management and organization or the medical device evaluation system. A range of elective subjects helps develop skills related to specific areas, such as artificial organs, assistive systems and diagnostics.

About you

An example of the application of biomedical engineering can be seen in the JARVIK-7 artificial heart - in this case engineering uses mechanical devices in cardiology, as well as silicone implants when relying on biocompatible materials in cosmetic surgery. This combination makes it possible to create increasingly sophisticated solutions, but the potential of this application has not yet been fully realized. If you would like to see how much you can achieve with the latest technologies in biomedicine, choose a second cycle program. You will acquire the skills to use knowledge and independently acquire, verify and select information from various sources, including electronic sources. The study is interdisciplinary in nature, especially since some of the classes are taught by medical specialists from the Medical University of Lodz. This is a chance for you to learn about the medical aspects of biomedical engineering and its applications in diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. Part of the studies is provided in English, which facilitates preparation for using the rich English-language literature and functioning in an international environment. In addition, during your studies you will learn how to design and manufacture modern medical equipment and learn how to operate rehabilitation equipment. The skillful application of modern technologies in medicine and related fields will have no secrets for you. You will gain qualifications to work in many areas of biomedical engineering.
