About the field of study
Chemistry in Forensics trains graduates capable of using specialized knowledge of forensic chemistry, evidence analysis and techniques used in forensic science. The study program is designed to integrate knowledge of laboratory work with evidence with knowledge of chemical, biological, toxicological and IT issues. The study offers modern forms of education, based on a large number of classes of a practical nature (including. PBL/DT), which will enable students to solve real-world problems and develop soft skills and teamwork.
The training in this field is being conducted by Lodz University of Technology with the participation of experts from the AGH University of Science and Technology, the Cracow Institute of Forensic Expertise and the Forensic Laboratory of the Regional Police Headquarters in Cracow. During the first semester at Lodz University of Technology, students will be introduced to forensic chemistry, forensic techniques, modern analytical techniques and imaging in forensic science. In addition, they will study the basics of chemometrics, logic, as well as biometrics in forensics and the chemistry and detection of psychoactive compounds. In Cracow, as part of the away second semester specialists from: The Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics of AGH University of Science and Technology, the Prof. Dr. Jan Sehn Institute of Forensic Expertise and the Forensic Laboratory of the National Police Headquarters will conduct lectures, laboratories and exercises on: instrumental methods in forensic analysis, expert evaluation of events, analysis of digital data storage media, as well as the basics of human behavior and other topics closely related to working with evidence. The interdisciplinary nature of the education offered will allow graduates of this course to gain a comprehensive knowledge of modern analytical methods used in forensic investigations or in the identification of traces secured at the scene of an incident, but also to learn about legal issues, including those related to the issuance of forensic opinions in the criminal process. Interesting thesis topics (third semester), work with prominent specialists in the field of forensic science in Poland, and above all, the prospect of an attractive job in forensic laboratories of the police, customs service, research, inspection and diagnostic laboratories is a guarantee of interesting studies at Lodz University of Technology.

Competencies you will gain
About you
In 2013, there was a data manipulation scandal at the Randox Testing Services laboratory in Manchester. As a result, some 50 cases that were supposed to go to the courts were abandoned. The evidence analyzed included cases involving drugged driving, violent crimes, and unexplained deaths, among others. Due to the inability to retest the samples, no new evidence was developed.
Chemistry is a fascinating field, and when you combine it with forensics it gets even more exciting. So, if you dream of a career straight out of a detective series, check out our teaching offerings. In the course of chemistry in forensics, you will gain knowledge of modern chemistry, including in particular forensic, analytical chemistry, useful for formulating and solving complex tasks. You will learn the main trends in the possibilities of using modern chemical methods in forensic science, as well as gain skills in statistically processing data, including biometric data, using various methods useful in forensic science, including statistical tests and methods of multivariate data analysis. Upon graduation, you will be ready to conduct chemical research in the analysis of evidence and discuss chemical topics with specialists in other fields used in forensic science. The ability to solve chemical problems using modern methods of analysis and the use of modern chemical and analytical apparatus, will allow you to carry out advanced chemical analysis, and the ability to work in a group and knowledge of the principles of organizing and directing the work of teams, will be useful in your future career.
