About the field of study

Environmental Engineering in Construction at the second cycle studies allows you to develop advanced knowledge in the field of mathematical, natural and technical sciences and to acquire specialized skills related to networks and construction installations in environmental engineering, and in particular: 

  • upgrade and ensure the reliability of network operation and site armament; 
  • the use of renewable energy sources (e.g. solar, geothermal and biomass) and alternative sources of water supply (grey water, rainwater); 
  • to ensure the functional safety of building networks and installations under conditions of development and transformation of urbanised areas, rising social expectations and climate change (e.g. rainwater management systems, including the use of green infrastructure, air-conditioning systems ensuring optimum thermal comfort parameters); 
  • environmental monitoring, including the use of on-line technology and unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) for air quality control; 
  • modern control, measurement and control systems in construction installations; 
  • audits, characteristics and energy certificates of buildings; 
  • modeling and optimization of systems used in civil engineering/environmental engineering with the use of specialized computer software (e.g. SWMM, EPANET, AutoCAD, QGIS, Auditor OZC and CO, NormaPro, Therm, EnergyPlus, Arcadia-Thermo, Arcadia-BIM). 

Students acquire practical skills through the implementation of a range of projects and engineering studies and measurements, carried out in laboratory and/or field conditions, as well as through internships in specialized enterprises and municipal facilities. They also carry out projects in cooperation with students from the fields of architecture and construction using BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology, which allows them to comprehensively prepare for the implementation of design and investment tasks in their future professional work.

Environmental Engineering in Civil Construction deals with important issues affecting our planet. What I enjoyed most during my studies was the diversity of knowledge: from district heating systems to ventilation and air conditioning, renewable energy sources, air protection to water treatment projects.

Do you want to learn how to design modern air conditioning systems or learn about air protection systems and renewable energy sources? Take up studies in Environmental Engineering in Construction and find a recipe for the biggest urban and environmental problems of our time. 

It is a unique field of study that is linked to construction, architecture and urban planning. The acquired knowledge and skills will allow you to apply for professional qualifications in the full scope of both construction work management and design. It is a course for those who wish to acquire extended competences in the field of planning, design, execution and operation of networks and installations. You will be prepared to coordinate research work. You will also acquire the knowledge necessary to solve legal and administrative problems in environmental management. The education you will gain will slowly allow you to obtain a construction license without limitations in the installation specialty in the field of networks, installations and equipment of heat, ventilation, gas, water and sewage systems, and to perform independent technical functions in construction without limitations in designing, as well as leading construction works in the indicated field.
